    I have been trying to download updates from Gateway that I need, and the following error comes up:
    Microsoft.NET Framework
    An unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click continue the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will be shut down immediately.
    '-1' is not a valid number for maximum. Maximum must be greater than or equal to 0.

    I get this same error when trying to download an update from microsoft. Anyone able to help fix this?
    Thanks!
    I am running windows xp home on a gateway computer.

    I kept having problems with the .NET 2.0 SP1 update hanging immediately after the install initialized (using Windows Update) - would sit there for an hour or more & do nothing. I repeatedly rebooted & attempted the install, each time with the same result, it would just hang immediately after initialization. This was over a number of days, BTW. On XPP.

    I decided to try to uninstall 2.0 and reinstall it, but got an error message saying that the SP1 install was currently suspended, do I want to uninstall anyway? I said 'Yes' & let it uninstall. Now I can't get the 2.0 distributable to install - I get a message saying that 2.0 is incompatible with a previously installed version. Same with the SP1 distributable.

    I have the same problem with the .NET 2.0 SP1 update using Windows Update on another XP MCE rig but have not resorted to uninstalling anything there.

    Will the 3.5 distributable reconstitute everything?

    The MSKB article on this error says to simply uninstall SP1 before attempting to re-install 2.0. Problem is, SP1 is not actually installed, the installation is 'suspended' as far as the OS is concerned and there is no entry for SP1 in Add/Remove Programs & therefore no way to uninstall SP1.

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Please start your own thread for your own problem. But 3.5 is not a fix far all that is wrong with .NET. You may be better off uninstalling all of them and starting over.

    I still get the same error after downloading the newer .net. On the error there is a details button and below is what it says, if that helps at all?

    See the end of this message for details on invoking
    just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
    To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
    application or computer (machine.config) must have the
    jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
    The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>

    When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
    will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
    rather than be handled by this dialog box.

    It looks like version 2 of .NET that is causing the problem. Try reinstalling that and any updates to 2.0.

    on my add/remove program list, I have the following on there: .net 2.0 service pack 1, 3.0 service pack 1 and version 3.5. Should I remove all of them and then download 2 or 3.5 again you think? Or just keep what's there and download version 2 like you said? Thanks for your help....
