PLEASE help me! i have been using outlook express for my email for quite some time. Now all of a sudden, it won't let me open my email. A window comes up telling me that outlook express might be installed incorrectly. it's been in there forever. (unless my husband has done something to mess it up, which he denies)! this is what the message box says: Outlook express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. Outlook Express may not be installed properly.
What can I do? By the way, i am pretty much computer illiterate. Help!

jenna--don't file the divorce papers yet! Sometimes programs that worked fine just stop working for reasons other than user, or in this case, husband error. For example, one program may make changes to affect another; a virus may be downloaded from the web, or the area where a file is stored on the hard drive may just become damaged over time from use.

The above suggestion should work, but if you're uncomfortable editing the registry, you could just try reinstalling Outlook Express first--that may work just fine.

Well, I'm confused. I am definitely uncomfortable with editing the registry, so I did as you suggested and reinstalled Outlook Express. It worked - sort of. I can now get into my email, but it won't let me view any attachments. It is telling me that Outlook Express is configured wrong. It is giving me the dreaded 0X8004104F message! I can't forward messages, either. I'm going to have to do the editing thing, aren't I?! Please tell me no! And thank you so much for your help. I've been a basket case over this!!!
quote:
Originally posted by Mulder:

jenna,
Don't let editing the Registry scare you
. Just pay close atteneion to whatever you do and even write down what you do so it can be added back if needed.

Good Luck
