Updates generally are automatic, but there has been a major update recently that did alert you

I have seen so many queries like this that I feel it is almost certainly genuine
best way to check is to open your Microsoft Office program, for example word. Select file then office account then click the little down arrow beside update options and select the update now button

Only if you turned them on for all Microsoft products when doing a Windows update!

No Dave that is NOT correct
Many editions of Office 2010 and just about all versions of office 2013 and office 365 use click to run, which is totally independent of windows or Microsoft update and automatic updates are on by default for that program

    dvk01,
Are these updates done at the time of Windows update or at the time of usage of program?
I know that Office 365 is updated on the fly when one starts up any program within "365".
I have "365" installed on my Windows 7 32 bit machine.

I also have 2010 (32 bit) installed on my Windows 7 64 bit machine, and the updates come when Windows updates are done.

CTR updates are done on a regular update schedule. It is supposed to check every 3 days and auto install when a a program starts

2010 was the last version where many editions had a normal MSI installer for consumer use and updates were via Windows updates.

Some versions, particularly Starter only came pre-installed and was always ctr
