Thanks for reading my post. any assistance is much appreciated.
Last night i started to watch a movie using the DIVX player system on my laptop and shortly after an error appeared. It had to with with an Assertion Error, generated from the Microsoft Virtual C++ which caused the movie to freeze, although i was still able to listen to the audio, the video froze. when i try to hit the cancel or retry buttons it closes the entire movie player program. I have done a HiJackThis pass and its listed here below:

See here for an explanation of 'assert' :
    http://www.codeguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315371

Without looking at the code, it is difficult to determine what condition it is trying to do a assert for.

Try downloading the latest DIVX player and see if same happens.

Many applications are written using Microsoft Visual C++, so nothing unusal there. When an application crashes due to a debug assertion error, an window opens showing the program file name and module file name, and usually the folder path to the files. Write this information down next time.

while I wouldn't entirely rule out malware. This is more likely to be a malformed movie or problem with divx player
As such I have moved you to XP forum rather than security
