I just got a new computer that came with 'Works' and I'm trying to make an alphabetized list and can see no way to do that - help! Can anyone out there give me the steps?

You OUGHT to be able to use a spreadsheet.

Put the names in a column.

Somewhere on the toolbar, you should see an AZ button with an arrow?

Click on one of the names and hit that arrow. Does it sort?

Do you have last name first?

If you happened to put them into a Word document, put your cursor in front of the first name (to the left of it), and try from the menu: Table-Sort and see what options you get.

I'm sorry, I'm not very familiar with the Works programs, but they're microsoft, and that's the usual commands...

Thanx for trying to help, however, I cannot find the "AZ button" on the tool bar and I do not have 'Word' so cannot try the second suggestion. Any other thoughts?

What program did you put the list in?

Is it a spreadsheet or a document?

Do you understand the difference? A spreadsheet has lots of squares and you type numbers into it. And a document is just a white sheet that you type a letter or something like that with.

If you're still not sure, do you know the name of your file?

I do know the difference - I tried it in a spread sheet and could not find the "AZ" button you described. Your other suggestion involved 'Word' not 'Works' so I did not try it as I do not have 'Word'. The names are not in a file I want to make a list of names and have the computer alphabetize them.

What are your menus across the top?

Do you have a Data menu?
Does it have Sort on it?

Did you check the help for "sort"?

    to sort in works:

first select the names you wish to sort, if you only have one column set up in works spreadsheet then go to edit, press select column, that will make the column with the data in in black

then go to tools press sort and a little box will pop up asking if you want to sort ascending or descending, tick awhere appopriate and away you go

I moved that other Q out to its own questio so we stay on focus here.

    I don't have Works installed.
    :(

And I don't know what version you're using.

Let's get the version under Help-About and I'll change the title of your question or get somebody in here who can really help.

    I assume DVK's reply didn't help?

Or did you send me that PM BEFORE DVK's post?

    Trying to get you there!

Me too, Derek. She said that dirty word: WordPerfect. I told her she oughtn't be saying that to someone who runs www.TheOfficeExperts.com.

    LMAO!!

    Cool beans, Lil.
