so i have problems with a sbs2003 box. Its slow...fax services are not working properly etc...

the only option i see is to reinstall it.
is there anyway i can migrate accounts, exchange settings, shares ...as much as possible.

how would i go about doing this?

do i have to use some virtual server software...(thats what my friend was telling me)
has anybody got any info or links to accomplishing this...

Take a quick look here

http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archiv...er-2003-migration-update-943494-released.aspx

You have three options, theres a fourth but thats install from scratch
ca/groups?hl=en&lr=&scoring=d&q=move+to+new+hardware&btnG=Search&meta=group%3Dmicrosoft.public.windows.server.sbs

1. Swing Migration - http://www.sbsmigration.com

2. forklift. Image your installation and restore it to your new hardware. Some information on this method at http://www.smallbizserver.net. Check out google groups also for some info also.

3. Theres a Microsoft tool called Active Directory Migration Tool. For this you'll need to rename your server and you domain http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=16414

i was just wondering...

i want to migrate to the same server on a different hard drive. (a new drive, clean install)
is there a way to export settings to another drive and import
it to the new drive?

the hardware wont change...

what about dns and dhcp and all that...

A migration really would be faster, the problem with a backup and restore is it'll take just aslong as doing it from scratch really and theres no say something won't be messed up while doing it. The only other options are to fix the problems that caused the slowdown or image and restore but that'll copy the problems also. You can migrate DNS and DHCP also etc. The zone files are most likely Active Directory integrated anyway.
