Now i have tried running mIRC from seperate hard drives, seperate clients, nothing running, etc. now if i use a FTP client and have transfer at high speeds i am fine. I am running WinXp Pro on a pII 350mhz machine with 384megs of SDRam pc133. I would appreciate any help on this matter thank you...bacon

My advice is go to housecalls & run the free online virus scanner.

for a free virus scanner you can add to your system... go get AVG. Click here to download AVG

and to protect yourself from hackers etc... Get Zone Alarm
Click here the free version is fine

then there is spyware ... go get Ad-Aware

this should keep you in pretty good shape

Bacon you probably have alot of spyware congesting the ports...

You really need to go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com & download ad-aware & run it....

Also sounds like you have to many items in startup running in the background

    Hiya

Not certain how you get the Startup programs on XP, so we'll try both ways.

Go to Run and type MSINFO32. If that comes up with an error, then try Programs | Accesories | System Tools | System Information.

Now, on the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs. Copy/paste the list here. If you cannot, you may have to use the dropdown menus to find Save As Text File. Then, highlight all of that and copy/paste here.

Also, have you done a defrag lately?

    Regards

    eddie

I would only try Xchat if you have no other choice as it is a beta (experimental version) for windows and has many bugs

such as 1. tying dir in a serv you cant see the whole list

    2. Resuming files (doesnt work) causes xchat to crash

    3. random errors on xchat.exe (shut down out of nowhere?) - havent figured this one out yet
