I purchased a Lacie 500GB USB hard drive, and then formatted it to NTFS, only to then be told in the Properties box that the drive, when empty, is 465.76GB! How is that possible?

Microsoft and the HD manufacturer count 1 GB differently. One counts it as 1,000,000,000 bytes, the other counts it as 1,048,000,000 (or thereabouts).
