Just installed a brand new copy of Windows XP Pro and find that the system tray is missing a couple of items that I would expect to see there. One is the clock, and the other is the icon that shows whether I am connected to the internet or not. Neither my hefty Windows manual nor Microsoft's help index make any reference to the system tray.

jifreema, For the missing clock right click your Taskbar, choose Properties, under the Taskbar tab checkmark "Show the clock", click Apply/OK.
For the Internet Connection icon go to Start>Control Panel and open Network Connections. Right click your Network Connection, choose Properties and checkmark "Show icon in notification area when connected", click OK,

Note: In Windows XP the system tray is called the Notification Area.
