When I open Device Manager (windows 2000) the window is totally blank. When I make a new internet connection, there is nothing showing in the network connections window except Make New Connection (which doesn't work). Am I missing some windows files or is it something else? If I plug in the DSL cable the internet works fine. It's all very strange.

Sounds like you may have some services disabled or set to manual that should be starting with the machine. See if "Network Connections", "Shell Hardware Detection", and "Plug and Play" services are running and configured correctly.

Checked all those things. Plug and play was set to automatic and Network connections was set to manual, no listing for Shell Hardware Detection. I put the other two to automatic and then rebooted. Still can't read the device manager. Nothing is there. Thanks.
