missing dll file

recently got a new game and installed it...but when I went to play --it said missing dll file
dinput.dll I am not the brightest crayon in the box...so I am lost as to what I need to do to get this file...I did try to search for it --nothing comes up. To go farther than that I need assistance....if anyone would be able to help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Install <A HREF="http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/default.asp">Microsoft DirectX 8.0a</A> , and your file will be restored as well.

On that web page, there are versions available for various operating systems, and the only reason for your error would be that you picked the wrong one.
