I have a dell studio 540 desktop computer
    that I bought second hand
when I first got the computer it had been completely wiped and had no operating system at all
I managed to set upuntu on the computer and then from their installed windows 7 from a borrowed cd
the computer is working great except that it wont connect to the wireless internet I have as it is missing drivers

I managed to get meteor to go working but I have wireless and would like to be able to use it
after downloading loads of different drivers I managed to get it working with the cable but I cant get it working without the cable attached or even to recognise that the wireless is there
any help would be much appreciated

There should be a service tag code on a sticker somewhere on the computer, try this link or just head to Dell.com and click on the Technical Support in the upper right of the website.
Enter the service tag and it should give you a list of drivers, just make sure they apply to your specific version of Windows.
Hope this helped, post back if you need any further info.

Hopefully the Service tag sticker was not removed but if it was, using that same link you can choose the model of computer and that should point you to the right drivers as well.

You say you installed Windows 7 from a borrowed DVD, did that version of Windows match the version on your Product Key sticker. If not, how did you validate the licence.

From what I can determine, the Dell Studio 540 desktop comes with Windows Vista pre-installed.
