    Try this:

Right-click on an area of the side bar and select Properties
Select Restore gadgets installed with Windows
    Click ok.

Run from the Command Prompt the following
    regsvr32 atl.dll
    regsvr32 -u wlsrvc.dll
    regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll
    regsvr32 wlsrc.dll
    regsvr32 scrun.dll
    regsvr32 msxml3.dll
    regsvr32 jscript.dll
    regsvr32.exe vbscript.dll

If the problem is not solved try installing Java.

Probable you did some update that changed the registers. I suppose that the only thing that remain to you is to do a Restore Point. I'm sorry if I am wrong

Create a restore point the download windows all in one repair. Right Click the icon on desktop run as admin Choose Basic mode put a check next to repair windows sidebar/gadgets.also make sure that restart system when finished is checked reboot your machine if the programs doesnt do so for you.You should have your side bar back.
