in my control panel under catergory view i used to be able to defrag from there by clicking on "re arranged files on your hard disk" but i recently done a total redo using my restore disks for my pc and for some reason that option isn't in my control panel anymore. i can still get to defrag through the start menu but i liked doing it fom control panel and it bugs me that it isn't there.

is there a way i can get it back by editing the registry or some other way?

any ideas why it isn't there any more?

thanks :)

I still have a performance and maintenance link and i can still get to defrag through "Administrative tools/computer management" so xp2 is the culprit any ideas on how to get the link back in there, it's so much easier that way ...a whole 2 clicks easier and i'm lazy

It sure is strange why it moved in some systems and not so in some. My two xp systems here ( Home and pro) both are intact.

I dont think you can get it back there, if yours is the same as mine, because XP2 got rid of System Tools for some reason and thats where my defrag was before ....I used to access it by going to start/programs/accessories then system tools, but its not there any more as, as far as I can see security centre took its place, because thats all that shows now if I click on system tools ....
