My friend has a compaq presario 2133ac laptop runnig xp home sp2. she has recently tried to install and use a huawei e1762 usb modem for 3g mobile broadband(blinkit, powered by optus). the thing won't save a default setup for apn(the default setting is static, but should be dynamic). I've changed this manually, but although it claims to have saved and set as default, it still goes back to static on restart. when I connect to the net, internet explorer starts searching, then I get the bsod. it cites BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER. the usb hub onboard is version 1, and the device is version 2.0. I'm stuck! Any ideas?
It would appear that this is an issue to do with the laptops outdated usb version 1 hub. the ladys bro' tried the modem on his desktop(version 2.0 hub, more RAM), and it worked no drama(still had to manually set the connection profile, though). got the mongrel working on the laptop, but very slowly. I'm thinking that only a RAM upgrade(currently 256MB - dismal!!!) & a new usb 2.0 hub on the cardbus will fix this. The modems manufacturer(Huawei) don't seem to have this model listed.
