I am moving in a couple of days and have almost a 2 week wait for my internet and phone connections to be put in. Through desperate and uninformed searching, I have discovered mobile interent may be an option to see me through this time. I am tring to figure out how all of this works and what my best/cheapest options are. I am wondering how a mobile internet card or stick works and if I need tohave a internet connection already established to go this route. I do not have a cell, but wonder if I were to get one with an option for internet, if I could use this as a modem for my laptop? This is all new to me and I would be greatful for any advice!

    First Name:
With mobile internet you get a special adapter, often USB, for your computer. Like cell phone service it is available anywhere that particular carrier offers service and usually comes with a 2 year contract. There are some other plans; here is a new Virgin Media plan.

Yes, you can use a cell phone as a modem for a computer. Here, for example, is one carrier that offers hourly rates.

You, of course, should see what is available in your locality.

My advice is to find a free public hotspot (library, restaurant, ...) and get your internet fix there for the 2 weeks. :)
