I just purchased a LG Lucid.2 Verizon (Android OS) smartphone for my wife (her first mobile with more than just phone service) and am trying to figure out how to sync her YahooMail account such that when an email is deleted on the phone it still stays on the YahooMail server, which I'm able to do on my Samsung Galaxy S4. Thanks

You need to setup the account as a POP account and then uncheck the option to delete the mail on the server, by default it probably sets it up an IMAP account where any and everything you do with email gets synced back to the mail server.

EDIT: I think a few phones and email apps might also have an option that only deletes messages on the phone and leaves it on the mail server even if it's an IMAP account. For POP you can specify in the email app's settings if you want it deleted off the email server.
