Hi!

My problem is (I hope ) simple enough to resolve....

Soyo Mobo (SY 5ehm v1.3) won't detect my old but faithful SoundBlaster16
ISA,
My OS is win ME
I had sound,
but
I installed more RAM (that went OK!!!)PC133
tried a second harddrive ( no go!)Maxtor
tried second cd drive (Creative (no go))First one is a old burner, Matshita
took out second hard drive and cd
scandisk and defrag in DOS mode done
flashed my BIOS

Still no go ....What gives???

Can't wait to hear from you!!!
(no pun intended!!!! ;))

ISA is not plug and play your motherboard does not have to detect it, however your OS does. Install it manualy in hardware wizard.

Hello again!!
Thanks for the suggestion , but been there, done that....:(
doesn't work I'm using drivers from creative made specifically for the soundblaster16....
and it was working before....
Could anything in the BIOS be causing this??

Thanks!!!

Check in BIOS setup for a setting that says whether it is a plug-and-play operating system or not. That determines the resources assigned to the ISA bus. Try it the opposite of what it is now.

Any other machine you could test that card in or any other ISA card around that you could test in your machine? It's always good to rule out hardware failure before tinkering with the OS.

Any sounds at all from that card, like even a slight click when the machine powers up?

Anything yellow or red in Device Manager? Do you have the most recent motherboard drivers?

The manual for your board is here if you don't have one:

http://www.soyousa.com/downloads/count.php?id=1777&next=/manuals/586new/m5ehmv1310.pdf

this is the recommended chipset driver for your MVP3 mb:

http://www.viaarena.com/downloads/drivers/4in1/VIA_4in1_443v.zip

Check the documantation that came with the SB card on how to set any jumpers for resource allocation. Be sure they match the settings in the BIOS, if any.

Did you check all the BIOS settings after the flash to be sure they are correct?

Hi again !
Tried everything you suggested
except for trying my soundcard on another machine
I don't have a benchmark!!

Sound is very barely audible....
if I stick my ear to my speakers I can hear all sound files...?????

So weakly in fact, that if any ambient noise, (fan from the power supply is enough,) youcan't hear anything

The amp in the card could be gone, I guess, but do you have another set of speakers and an amplifier that you can try? Are you using amplified speakers?

(I realize you have probably tried all of this---just trying to try all the obvious things you may have overlooked :D).

You mean to say that if you play an mp3 on your machine, you can hear it in the speakers, even though your machine has not installed the card and it doesn't appear in the Device Manager? Is your ISA bus even shown under System Devices?

Well,

All this caused by a faulty hard disk....

As the problem just stayed with me , I gave up...

Then other apps started failing and after a scandisk, it was obvious I needed to run setup again....and again...

That didn't work so I formatted and voila, my harddrive had too many bad sectors and wouln't even format...

So I grabbed an old 4,3 gigs laying around, formatted and reinstalled and TADA.... my sound is back....!!!!! (y) :p

Why ?
I don't understand.... surely between system restore and reinstalls the problem would have been fied ? no?

Anybody has any idea...?

Thanks
