Hello All, I'm back.... ... I installed a AMD 2400+ 2.0 processor back into my compaq presario S4020WM computer... when I had hooked the power supply back up and had all my cables back in place.. I proceeded to restart the computer. The computer powered up for about 45 seconds and it keeps shutting back off... can anyone help me to get my computer back up and running?

Did you renew the thermal paste between the CPU and the heatsink?

If not, it will overheat and shut down quite quickly to prevent damage.

thanks kiwiguy for your input... yes I had installed fresh thermal grease on both the cpu and the heat sink and it still would not start.. I did however solve the problem. I had switched out the heat sinks and cooling fans, and for some reason the heat sink & cooling fan I had in this computer was not being detected by the MoBo and was causing it to shut down. I put the original heat sink and cooling fan back on the MoBo and the computer started up and it is still going. I want to say thank you again.
