I’ve done some reading on these forums and haven’t been able to find somebody with this issue. My problem is with connectivity via Wi-Fi. I have Comcast as an ISP and recently cancelled my phone service but kept internet. When I turned in the rented modem I asked if I could use my old Moto SB5101 and I was told yes, but it could be a problem in the future b/c it wasn’t DOCSIS 3.0 . So I hooked up the SB5101 and within two weeks the internet connectivity problems started, that was a week ago. Assuming that the problems were related to my modem I bought a SB6121 and that didn’t help. Comcast sent out a tech several days later and he did see some issues with “noise” and cleaned it up. When he left it wireless was working however I didn’t spend time thoroughly checking it out. Later that night it was once again doing the same thing.
Anyway, I have two laptops (one TP T41 running XP and an Acer running Win 7) and both are having issues with the internet via Wi-FI. If I plug either into my E2000 Linksys router they both work fine. Ironically my DrodX can connect wirelessly with no issues. I am only concerned at this point with the Acer (it’s my wife’s), I can deal with the TP later.
Here is what I have tried so far:
-Updated the firmware on my E2000 including a factory reset after install.
-Checked wireless adapter firmware on Acer, It’s already got the latest version.
-Several power cycles and modem resets via Comcast’s 800 line.
-Firewall and AVS have been disabled during testing.

Not really sure what else to do at this point. Any direct is greatly appreciated!

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from Acer's web site. If you already have that driver reinstall it anyhow in case the installed instance is corrupted.

What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the system?

    Try channel 11.

Try with encryption disabled. If that works try with WPA-PSK TKIP (not WPA2).

Thanks for the advice, the channel 11 switch seems to have done the trick. The Acer machine has now been working for a couple of days. Are there any tips on improving the speed? It's now past 10 pm local time and i'm only getting 2.5 up and the same down. Don't remember having that slow of a connection, ever.

    Thanks, again!

    Abita,

I am not sure on the mechanisms of QoS and WMM, may be you could also try to turn WMM on the wireless router.

    Thanks

That's using what test? Please try Speedtest.net and give us the download speeds for the wireless connection, for an ethernet connection to the Linksys router, and for a connection directly to the modem.
