I have a Win95 OS. Whenever I start my computer, I try to get online and it says it can't detect modem. After I restart the computer 2 or 3 times, it finally dials and lets me online. Then, when I'm in the middle of doing something, the computer disconnects and when I try to reconnect it, it can't detect the modem. I've tried reinstalling it, but it doesn't work. What could be the problem, and how can I fix it?

Go into your device manager and see if your modem is there, then delete it. Then go into add hardware and reinstall it that way. It may work,.

Thanks, but I've tried that, and it rarely works. When it does, it's just temporary. Sometimes it detects the modem and installs it, and other times it can't detect it and I have to select it from a list. Any other thoughts?

try changing drivers. Maybe the drivers you have are old are just not compatible.

Uh, this may be a stupid question, but how do I change the drivers for my modem?
Thanks,

Go into your device manager and click properties for your modem, then it should let you update it, if not then go into the modems properties from your control panel. See if it works,.

Another possible fix would be Opening the side of the computer and making sure the modem is physically seated correctly.

To do this locate modem and push firmly towards the motherboard until it feels like its "in" and wont rock back and forth at all.

try the manufacturer of the modems site or www.driverzone.com could be a conflict in your hard drive to if so youll have to back up and format and load win98 if possible it has more drivers on board then 95
