Hi there,

I recently purchased a 'Philips 231B4LPYCB_75 Brilliance LCD-monitor' and am trying to connect it to my 'Dell Inspiration 13, 5000 Series' laptop, so I can work on two screens at once.

My laptop only has 1 hdmi and 3 usb ports while the monitor has 1 dvi, 1 vga and 1 DisplayPort.

My dilemma is that the monitor has onboard speakers (which I want to use) but only the DisplayPort input can carry audio signals and as far as I'm an aware an hdmi to DisplayPort cable from my laptop to monitor will not work at all (unless I buy an active converter).

Ultimately, I could just run an aux cord from my laptop to monitor to get audio and then buy and hdmi to dvi or vga cable for video. But I'm wondering if there are any other ways to get audio and video from laptop to monitor with just one cable? If it's not possible then what way would you guy recommend I connect my laptop to monitor.

Cheers.
