A friend is having the following problem with his computer, when he switches the machine on it seems to boot OK.but the lights on keyboard just flicker a couple of times and then nothing, also the the monitor switches on but immediately switches off again,The PSU.fan is working OK.as is the CPU.fan, the machine has onboard sound and graphics and the only hardware fitted into one of the PCI.slots is the modem,he has Windows XP Pro. and we have checked all connections and also tried another monitor but still the problem remains, any help/advice on what is causing this to happen and what can be done to try and rectify it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for the prompt reply, the computer seems to be getting power OK. as the cooling fans are working and the case lights are on,also the lights on the keyboard flicker on bootup but do not remain on,the monitor seems to be getting power also as the green light comes on and then switches off as though in standby mode with the orange light on,it seems strange that both the keyboard and monitor have both developed problems at the same time, any other sugestions would be very welcome.

Aloha,
If he didn't mess around with any settings, it still could be the power supply because it supplies different voltages so the fan may work, but other things may not. TIA
