    Hi,

I am having a problem with pop ups from a site called as.adwave and also from a site called edge. Sometimes a trojan downloader virus (polall1r.cab) is attached to the pop ups (dealt with by PAV by sending it to a different location so it can't be run). I have run ad-aware and spybot and fixed what I can with those programs (incidently, spybot cannot permanently remove spyware associated with "IE Search" DSO Exploit, and VX2/f - it says it does but they just show back up on subsequent scans). My HTJ log is at the bottom of this email. I can see that some of the lines are relevant (those with "aspx?" in them, which is always included in the as.adwave pop up URLs, but if I just fix those, they come back on subsequent HTJ scans. I also know that one of your users was helped with this very problem in this thread (http://forums.techguy.org/archive/index.php/t-254512.html), but my log has enough differences from his that I wasn't able to apply the procedure to my computer.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Best,
    msd47

First, go to Add/Remove Programs control panel in Windows and find "Wintools". Uninstall it, and reboot.

Now run HijackThis again and fix these items. If one of these items is no longer in HijackThis, just ignore it

Thank you, Brendan. Here's the log after following 99% of the procedure. I hope you won't be offended or think me ungrateful or untrusting, but I hesitated to delete the line "R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1;192.168.100.1;localhost" without some additional reassurance from you, because I was afraid it would wipe out my local network (I think the address:192.168.100.1" is my router). Do you still recommend it be removed? I apologize if you find my question impertinent, since I really do appreciate your help.

I did a little surfing without getting any pop ups, so it appears that the problem has been fixed. I did a spybot scan afterwards also, and everything it previously found is gone except for five DSO Exploit keys

    Sincerely

Hi, I was notified that you had responded to my thread. I hope someone who has the expertise follows up with you. The one thing that I might recommend is that you start a new thread with your request for help, i.e., the techies who monitor new posts might be more likely to see your post and to respond, if it's the beginning of a new thread. Best luck.
