I have one computer, AMD K6/3 -450, running Win98se. JUst in the last day or so, I have noticed that the icons on my desktop are "re-scrambled" everytime I boot up. Except for the first four: MyComputer, MyDocuments, Internet Explorer, and Norton Protected Recycle Bin.

That did not happen before, does it mean I have a problem?

Ad-aware 6.0, AVG6.0, and NortonAV don't pick up anything unusual--just the usual tracking cookies.

Oh, there's also an Icon that I don't recognize and that doesn't have a name, only a "~". I've scanned it with Norton, AVG and TheCleaner and all give a clean report.

HijackThis report is normal, as far as I can tell.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Txds,

That new icon with the tilde is known.
    Its due to an update.
I dont recall all of the article, but its a back up of the
    address book, i think.

    As for the icon placing,
have you checked the arrange icons ?

    Thanks for the tildefile info.

I have not changed by settings for the desktop, so if a setting has been changed it was done by an unwanted intruder!

I too had the scrambled icon problem - it is caused when you change your screen's resolution (like playing a full screen game) and is not a worry. There is a great free proggie which when you right click on your desktop offers 2 new options "save desktop" and "restore desktop". You save your desired icon layout and whenever they get scrambled, you right click and choose restore desktop - and they go back by themselves. You will need the latest windows installer which you may already have (When you try to install the icon proggie it will let you know). Get the icon proggie here:

If you need the installer, go here (It's in French -at the very bottom):
