Well, I just got rid of Home Search Assistant about a month ago, but it came back! And it's the same problem as before, my homepage changing to about:blank, and pop ups and stuff. Someone please help again! Thank you in advance.

Ensure you have the following applications downloaded and available:

    1 > coolwebshredder: http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.html
    2 > about:buster: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/AboutBuster.zip
    3 > getservice.zip: http://forums.techguy.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=38367
    4 > CWS service remover: http://forums.techguy.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=38507
    5 > Hoster: http://members.aol.com/toadbee/hoster.zip

    >>> For starters, unzip getservice.zip to its own folder and run runme.bat and upload the text file here as an attachment. Include another HijackThis scanlog in case something has "morphed"

Ok, I have all of the following. Additional info., my homepage keeps changing to "about:blank". Is this spyware in itself too?

    Please help!

It's a symptom of the hijack. Post the results of "runme.bat" as an attachment and copy/paste a new Hijackthis scanlog.

It was "getservices.bat", you got it right, I was thinking of something else.

Alright, while I would have liked to also see a new Scanlog before proceeding, please follow these instructions very carefully. Print or save them to a notepad file before proceeding.

1 >> Disconnect from the web. If you use a cable\dsl modem, unplug it.

2 >> Ctrl-alt-del to open the Task Manager and quickly terminate the following processes:

    ipie32.exe
    mfcye.exe

3 >> Go to Start > Run, enter services.msc and find the Service called:

    Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper

!!! be absolutely sure the service you select says "Helper"; Do not confuse it with any other "remote procedure call" service

Stop the service if running, and double click it to get to its properties and set the startup mode to "disabled"

4>> Reboot in Safe Mode: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

    >> run the Coolwebshredder and have it "fix" any detected problems.

    5 >> Run Hijackthis.

Check and fix ALL R1 - 03 items EXCEPT these, these are the ones you want to keep!

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com

    >> check and "fix" the following:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ipie32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipie32.exe

6 >> Go to start > Run and enter cmd and at the command prompt type and enter each bold line:

    del C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipie32.exe
    del C:\WINDOWS\mfcye.exe

7 >> run about:buster and save the log.

8 >> run the CWS service remover

    9 >> run hoster.exe

Additional cleanup instructions: Go to the Control Panel > Internet Options applet. Clear the Temporary Internet Cache, History and Offline Content. Go to the Programs tab and select "reset web settings", including your home page if it has been altered. You can reset that later to what you desire.

Go to Start > Run, enter %temp% and then click Edit > Select All. Right click on the selected files and folders and delete them

10 >> reboot, reconnect to the web and run HijackThis and post a new Scanlog. Also post a new getservices.txt

Looks like the operation was a complete success. Unless the hijack returns by the time you post back, I will mark the thread "resolved" and also lock it to preclude piggybacking. All others should start their own topics for this one.
