I think crashes in Morrowind are par for the course, and with Bethesda games in general. Daggerfall (Elder Scrolls 2) was even worse. My system (see below) never crashes in anything else I run, but Morrowind will often close without warning, I suspect it's trying to allocate RAM and failing, and they haven't bothered to work any kind of checking into there (a common problem with C++ programs, Java doesn't have this issue).

latest patch, and having latest graphics driver will help, also you'll need to meet the requirements, maybe you don't have the hardware to handle it... patience is a virtue.

Unfortunately, morrowind is a buggy game. One thing that helps is to hunt down a no-cd crack, and install it. The protection that Bethesida used makes the game run slower, and makes crashes more likely, even on a perfectly legitimate copy of the game.

I guess that could be a way to do it. Unfortunately it is an illegal way to do it. On the other hand, Bethesda could help us do something similar by releasing a patch or just instructions that actually let's us install everything and only use the disk to check that we have an original. This is how it is done and even recommended for some other games like Blizzards now age old Diablo 2. The even older Diablo Classic however require an illegal No CD patch or it will spin frantically, threatening to ruin the disk due to overheating.

I'm a big Morrowind freak too, and I get "crashing" from time to time also. Are you running the GOTY edition of the game (Morrowind and the two expansions) When I first started, I just ran the early edition of Morrowind, and had to install the patch avaible from Bethesda. Are you running any mods? I've got around 40 installed on my game, and I suspect that might be part of the problem. Another thing I've been suspecting is heat, once when the game crashed, I restarted my computer, and checked the CPU and case temp through the BIOS set-up, it was real close to the shut-off point. Other that that all you can do is "save" every chance you get, thats pretty much what I do.....Long live Morrowind!
