Moto G Crashed and Won’t Restart

I found that my Moto G from about 2014 kept crashing. Then it crashed again and I couldn’t get it to turn on even with a hard reset. The charging light was on when I plugged it in. When I tried the hard reset I could hear a ticking sound from the speaker. Before all this, the internet on the phone was hideously slow, especially when using LTE.

Because this is my only phone, I realized that I had to unfortunately get a new one. What I would like to know is what went wrong? The cellphone repairman that I talked to said that it was the battery; could it be the memory chip?

Memory chips can last for decades. Rechargeable batteries roughly four years ... or in your case, I guess you got lucky and made it to six.

Without even being able to inspect the phone, and given that it is some six years old, my best guess would be the battery needs to be replaced.

TL;DR: Yes.

I actually replaced the battery twice with the same result. So I got a new smartphone. Had to trim down the SIM card, but didn't realize that at first, so I was without a phone for a couple weeks.
