When tried to install my IBM Mouse Suite Ver 1.72M (previously used on a Compact) on my new Dell Inspiron 6000 I get a message saying because the Microsoft logo could not be found, proceeding could premanently damage the computer. Is this true? Do I have to buy a new mouse?

It means the driver hasn't got the MS whql tag. Simply put MS hasn't tested the driver and gave it an OK. I have used plenty of drivers without the tag and "most" of them are fine.
