Laptop touch pad has suddenly gone nuts. Tried running a virus scan and got nothing. when i plug in a usb mouse it still does it (though touch pad is still enabled even when another mouse is plugged in).

Thing is it works great in safe mode so it must be software or a virus and I've tried uninstalling the drivers in safe mode but it hasn't worked.

Cant do much of anything outside of safe mode because of the crazy touch pad. Any thoughts or ideas? Oh yeah, I also tried system restore and I'm about to go see what i can setup with msconfig from safe mode.

sorry for the late response back. None of the above worked. It has a touch screen and I'm pretty sure now that the problem lies within that. I need to figure out what I have to disable to stop that and maybe I'll be in business. The touch screens never used anyhow.

It's a problem with the track pad, as I've disabled it in the bios and the problem is gone so i can at least use an external mouse on the thing. I need to figure out what has gone corrupt and why it's hapening now. ive tried uninstalling the mouse drivers under device manager but it doesn't help. if i enable the track pad it starts jumping all over again. same thing if i try to re-install the track pad software too.

Laptop is a Panasonic CF-74. It works fine in safe mode or I would have assumed it was a hardware problem by now.

I work as a firefighter and this is the laptop on our truck. I won't be able to get the registration info for the toughbook website because the laptop was registered by our previous fire chief. the laptop is about 5 years old. I have access to all the latest drivers and i have already attempted a re-install of the touch pad driver. As said before it must be software fixable though, as it works fine in safe mode.

I haven't ran HJT on it yet. I'm running a different V-scan on it now, and after that I'll giver it a try.
