    VLC Media Player 3.0.6

During the install process, select the "Recommended" or "Full" option.

Defrag your hard drive which holds the movies.

We know nothing about your computer and what hardware it has, so please do the following in it:

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) file.
After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
Information about your computer will appear.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

I would suspect inferior hardware before a fragmented HDD.

As noted above, provide the hardware info. Also provide the basic file specs using an app such as MediaInfo.

As noted above, it could be numerous causes. Providing all of the info noted above would help determine the actual cause.
