Hi there! I have followed directions for removal of the MovieLand/MediaPipe pop-ups from a thread by "David the Trojanator" (WONDERFUL HELP!!!).

I think I'm OK now - no more pop-ups - but I have gotten the following error when I run the ewido scan: "The file "C:\eied_s7.cab/eied_s7_c_156.exe" cannot be removed because it is embedded in the archive "C:\eied_s7.cab". Do you want to remove the whole archive?" I answered "no" so that I could continue.

Is there anything else I should do? The most recent HiJackThis and Ewido logs are pasted here.

Thanks for your help! Lexsha

You should have said yes

Fix these with HJT – mark them, close IE, click fix checked

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Notification Utility] "C:\Program Files\altpayV2\altpayV2.exe"

O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/Me...bridge-c18.cab

DownLoad http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Restart your computer into safe mode now. (Tapping F8 at the first black screen) Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

C:\Program Files\Media Access
C:\Program Files\altpayV2
C:\eied_s7.cab

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

START – RUN – type in %temp% OK - Edit – Select all – File – Delete

Delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder or C:\WINNT\temp

Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new log from normal NOT safe mode

Please give feedback on what worked/didn’t work and the current status of your system

Thanks for your help!

I went back and deleted the file that was embedded in the folder and followed your additional instructions. It seems that all is well. Pasted here are my ewido and HJT reports.

I agree that nothing could be finer than SCarolina. I go to Edisto beach almost every year!

Thanks again!

Hi again! I'm not sure what the problem is.... the log was clear, the MovieLand pop-ups are gone, but the computer is running EXTREMELY slowly. It takes anywhere from 15 seconds to 2 minutes to switch between or open/close/minimize windows!

Norton AntiVirus popped up with a virus today, maybe that is the problem. it said: OBJECT NAME: C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER\LOCALS~1\Temp\AAWT.....\counter.exe VIRUS NAME: Trojan.Adwaheck ACTION TAKEN: Unable to repair this file.

I tried to delete the file, but could not find the file on the path noted. I ran Adaware and rescanned Norton. Norton found the same virus and the repair, quarantine and delete all failed.

Also, I'm not sure if there's could be too much junk or the wrong programs in the start up file. I have Windows XP Home Edition, Version 5.1. the "physical memory available to Windows" = 129,328 KB; There is 6.09 GB of used space and 12.5 GB of free space.

Any suggestions? Thanks again!

With that small amount of memory you are at the bare minimum to run XP

Do a scan with Ewido and if its clean uninstall it - it uses a lot

go to www.crucial.com and get more memory for your system (Get 256 additional)

Post any logs you think might show something

Are you runing both Works and Word Perfect?

That is the temporary folder that Ad-Aware is using to unpack and examine files while running. The folder is automatically deleted when you close Ad-Aware, that is why you can't find it when you go looking.

The solution to the problem is to either turn off the anti-virus resident protection while running Ad-Aware as otherwise that file gets locked and neither Ad-Aware or your anti-virus can delete it.
