I purchased a used desktop PC (Acer Aspire M5100) without an installed operating system. What's an easy method of moving the operating system (XP SP2), programs and files to the Acer from a Dell Dimension 2100.

Since some XP files and settings are hardware dependent, I assume that simply moving the "C" drive won't be successful.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

First you can NOT legally MOVE the OS from the Dell to the Acer as it is tied to the Dell machine. You need to go and BUY a copy to be installed on the new machine. Then you are going to need to INSTALL all of the programs that you own on the new machine.
Then you can copy the data from the old machine to a external device and then copy to the new machine.
