Hi I am using Mozilla Firebird and I installed Java 2 Runtime Environment but the size of the installation is 100 MEGS!!
Is it really supposed to be that big? Is there an alternative? Also does the program startup with windows? If so does it slow down my system?
Thank you for your replies.

100 MB ! ?? No, its not that big

You are trying to load the Java 2 Platform itself. Unless you are intending to write Java code, I dont think you want that ..

The Java RE is only 8 MB.

I installed it from here: http://java.sun.com/getjava/manual.html
The size of the Java folder in Program Files is about 33 megs but in Add/Remove Programs, its 107.00MB.
Could you give me the link for the simple 8 meg Java RE installation? I just want to be able to view java applets and not write the code itself.
Tnx.

I have exactly the same problem, about the same size. I have Java runtime environment sev.1.4.1 (1.66mb) and also se1.4.2_01
(106mb), java webstart 1.8mb.

Do I need 1.4.2 - I downloaded it in the hope that more web pages would open (lush inparticular). How do I get the smaller version like the person above?

How do you install Java in Firebird? I can get it to install for Internet Explorer *shudders* but there is no option for Firebird.
