I am trying to find and install dos drivers for my cd/dvd rom, mouse and soundcard in order to play a game. When I visited www.driverguide.com, I need to know the make and model of my cd/dvd rom drive, which I don't. When I looked through the PC, it says I have 'Standard Cd-Rom drive' and '100% compatible soundcard'. How do I find out the make of these items without taking the PC to bits?

I have gotten downloads for the drivers but now keep getting an error. Whenever I type C:/config.sys I get the error 'bad command or file name'. How do I find the config file? I can edit it, but I can't get to it to see the lines for the device drivers.

You need to edit the file. If you are making a bootable disk you first ened to format it with the system files option. Once that is done, copy your current autoexec.bat and config.sys to the diskette. Open a DOS window and type edit A:\config.sys to edit the config.sys file and the same for the autoexec.bat file. If it says you have a generic CD-ROM you can use any ATAPI based driver for that. Copy it to the diskette and edit the appropriate areas of the afore mentioned files. For the mouse, you can copy mouse.sys or .com to the diskette. Here is a tutorial that will help:
