    Hi folks,

I'm considering buying Office XP and I wanted to check something out first... the official system requirements listed for this package state that it requires minimum 800 x 600 screen resolution. My question is, will it install and run at 640 x 480? (Although my system at home easily exceeds the other requirements listed, I am still using an old monitor that survived my old system, which cannot run other than 640 x 480. This works OK for me since I normally run my apps full-screen, and I would rather not buy a new monitor until this one dies a natural death.)

I have also installed PhotoShop Elements (1.0), and although this says it requires 800 x 600 on the box, it runs fine at 640 x 480. I'm hoping that Office XP would run also, but hesitate to buy it without knowing first. (I can't run Office 2003 since I don't have Win 2000 or XP.)

Thanks for any advice you can provide!

Would like to ask, if you don't mind, your reasons for wanting XP over whatever version you may currently use...

    Hi Dreamboat,

Not at all... I do not own ANY version as yet... I'm mainly a WP user from way back by preference, but for the last 6-7 years I've been doing most of my work documents in Word since our workplace switched over years ago... I've used Word at work since Word 6.0, and more recently Word 97, and then just before Christmas got my work PC upgraded, and now have Office XP.

Just recently have done some work merging Access data to a Word mailmerge file, and it seems that the Office XP version has made some nice improvements over previous versions in the mailmerge area -- which I always found confusing before. (Normally, I prefer "older" and smaller" when it comes to my applications... I even use WPDOS most of the time for my own straight typing jobs compared to WP for Windows!)

So, if I was going to buy Office, I thought that XP would be the best way to go, compared to earlier versions. I'd appreciate your thoughts on the matter. (BTW, I cannot test the resolution question on my work machine because I'm also running Windows XP, which itself does not support anything lower than 800 x 600.)
