Hi is there anyone that can tell me where the update for MS are placed? for example when you have auto update on it will auto download and install the update but where is the temp file placed? Can the temp install files or exe files be removed once the update has been applied without affecting the actual update itself? I think it is in one of the temp folders somewhere but no too sure can anyone help please thanx :D

Also is there anyway that i can download the exe files so that i can place them onto a CD for quickness in the future? So that i dont have to wait for the updates to download and install, i can just install them please?

If C: is your system drive,

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution

To download the updates, look at the Administrator Options and the Windows Update Catalog on the Windows Update page.

I usually let Automatic Updating take care of the updates (though I opt to be notified before download and before installation), and then I move the update files from the SoftwareDistribution folder to another where I store them for quick reinstallation. But it is not easy to determine what files in that folder are required for the installation (at least for me sometimes). It is far easier and more reliable to download the updates through the Windows Catalog if you plan to store them.
