Dear TSG & co.

I've been working on a huge doc in word (w/images)... Since it has grown (78 pages = 14'600kb), problems.

1) Track-changes was activated by default; seeing this as a potential source of problems, I deactivated in word. However, evertime I save and then open doc on another pc, the track changes reappear & doc is increased to 100+ pages of text & images. I believe this has blocked my pc (ASUS pro5di, windows 7, Office 2010) and corrupted or lost data.

Since starting with this doc, I realized that every time I create a new word doc, it opens as a very narrow page on the left side of the screen. It isn't the zoom: zoom was at 100% and when I increased it, I had to increase to over 200% to read any text.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum. You did not specify the version of the Word or windows that you have, but her goes. Try using your Windows Key+F at the same time to bring up the find window. Search for normal.dot or normal.dotx and then rename it normal.old. See if that fixes it. If not then let me know and I will try to get back to you on Monday. Please make sure to do this while Word is not open and then open Word afterward to see if that issue is fixed.

Dear jimr381

First time using any kind of forum. Sorry for lack of info..I have Windows 7 w/MS Office 2010. Computer is Asus pro5di. I presume windows key is same as windows "flag" image. Anyway, I reached the search screen, entered both normal.dot or normal.dotx options, but only come up with a list of documents in which these appear (for which they're applicable). I'm not sure where to change the info to normal.old. Also, ms word was not open. Thnks!

Are you seeing the extension, which are the characters after the dot in the filename? If you are not then rename the normal file to normalold and then see if that fixes your issues.
