I am having an issue where when I goto run msconfig, it acts like it's loading, but the window never opens. When I check the Task Manager, msconfig.exe is in the processor list. So, why won't the window show itself?

Try start
run
msconfig.exe
That is how I was trying to open it. I also tried going through C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries and used the xp_emergencyutil.exe, all three methods would show it in the Task Manager, but no window.

try windows sysinternal autoruns,,much better than msconfig.
Thank you for the suggestion, and while autoruns may be better, I'd still like to know why the msconfig window won't display. I like when things work, ya know? ;)

Have you tried this

start run

sfc /scannow

you need your xp disc
Well the scan was going well until it asked for me to insert disc 2. It says I provided the wrong cd. I've tried cleaning the CD, but still get the error. It is the right disc. It's the one that came with the system.
