I recently built a computer with the msi 87oa-g54 mb. For some reason the ethernet driver has gotten lost 2 times now. I went to the msi website to find a driver but have been unsuccessful. Could someone please tell me where to find it and also why it has done this? Thanks in advance.

Go into the Device Manager and advise what's listed in these headings:

    Network Adapters

    Other Devices

What's listed in the Other Devices heading?

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

From what I can determine, that motherboard has an integrated Realtek RTL8111DL network adapter.

The current driver version for Windows XP is 5.776.1111.2010.

This morning there are no yellow exclamation marks and no other.at all. Ethernet is not even listed. Should I try to download the driver and see if it will find it and install?

The Device Manager has no heading at all for Network Adapters and/or Other Devices?

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Select the topmost entry(5.776) for the Windows XP auto installation file.

It'll be in .ZIP format, so you need to download and save it in an empty folder on the desktop, then extract its contents into that folder, then double-click the "setup.exe" file to install it.

When you click the + in Network Adapters there's nothing listed there?

Have you tried the Realtek driver yet?

when i click on the + in network adapters it shows realtek PCIeGBE family controller. I'm using a slow laptop to get on line and that's what is taking me so long. do you still want me to try and install this driver i have downloaded?

i just did the setup on the realtek controller you sent. when i clicked on setup, it had a tick on the repair, which i did. it says the repair was done, but still unable to get on line. i know this place where it is connected is a good one. i just took my other one off here to connect this one.

The Realtek RTL8111DL is a PCI-E gigabite ethernet controller.

If it's listed in the Network Adapters heading and has no ? or ! or X next to it, it should be working properly.

    Right-click it, then click Properties - Driver(tab).

What's listed for the driver version and driver date?

You have the most current driver for it.

You might try powering off the high-speed modem, waiting 30 - 60 seconds, powering it back on, then waiting for the lights to sync.
