I have a MSI GT75VR 7RE gaming laptop that I bought in 2017. for a little while now my laptop has been having a weird problem where i would start it up and it would be showing good battery, and that its plugged in (and had been) but then I start up a game and it would die, id restart and it would usually have some much smaller charge amount and show that it is charging. this time though its still just saying 0% available and it doesnt say its charging

Try removing and reinserting the battery into your laptop and plug the power cord into both the laptop and the power outlet to see if the battery charges and retains its charge. If no difference is made, you may have to replace the battery of the laptop. The battery may have reached the end of its life.

4 years would be the time that batteries need to be changed.

You should be able to get the health of the battery by going into Command Prompt (Admin) and use the powercfg /batteryreport
