I'm trying to get Magic: the Gathering Battlemage to work properly on Windows XP. It was designed for 95, put out in 97, and worked okay on anything but NT based Windows from what I can tell. I can get it to install and start up on Windows XP, but the gamespeed is so fast, there's not way to enjoy the game. I'm using a DVD Drive for the CD and am wondering if perhaps there is a way to slow it down to the "requirement" of 2X, or if now, how I can get my system to put less effort into running the game as fast as it can.

To make it more confusing, I'm running the old Civilization II on my system and it's running at the exact right speed, with no problems anywhere. It's just MtG that doesn't want to work right.
