We have a home network with a wireless base station which acts as a router. One of the computers is connected to the base station and the other is connected to the network through a wireless card. All firewalls have been turned off. However we are unable to play Multiplayer AoE using either of the LAN/TCP-IP Option or the Internet TCP/IP option. We tried playing through the zone and that didn;t work either. Each time we just get a message saying "Unable to join game". I read a thread saying some port need to be open but the appropriate support page on the zone.com website seems to no longer exist :(. I just finished my finals and really really need to play this game :((((. Please help!!

The firewall wouldn't be an issue if your both behind it.
Do you have more then one game licence? In other words two or more different discs, one for each PC? If not that's why more then one PC can't play online at once. Some but not all games require each PC even on LAN matches to have a different licence key. If this isn't the case for you look to Microsofts FAQS for the game to see if you need each PC to use a different port. If both PCs are using the same port for the game that may be your problem but it's not firewall related. The same thing would apply if your both trying to play online. Due to the router obtaining an IP which both PCs use you would need to change the port settings for the game on one PC to insure the game server knows it's two different machines.

Yep, we do have two separate license keys and two separate CDs, so guess its a port issue. The problem is I have no idea how to change the client port on either computer! Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,

Well, turns out it was a port changing issue. Found a tool on www.puffinsoft.com that allows you to change the ports used and consequently play multiplayer games even when you're connected to a router. Thanks for all your help and incidentally, the tool is splendid and FREE too :D
