    Hi

I am new to this forum and am glad to be here:

I have an Intel Pentium 3 computer and Windows Me operating System (soon to switch to Xubuntu OS)
I started having problems with multiple windows opening very rapidly and in an out of control fashion until no more space is available to run any programs and I am forced to reboot. There was even a fast clicking sound as the windows kept opening up over and over ... at the speed of Superman.

This has been happening for over a month now ... it goes away and then comes back (about once every couple of weeks)

I have the free avast virus program (updated automatically), and the free A2. I also run Adaware and Spybot and have tried the free online PCCillin check as well. I have also used Anti Vir but not at the same time as Avast.

I have not been able to find anything on my computer.

I reformatted my hard drive twice. And the darn thing keeps happening (but not every time ... just off the wall)

Changes I have made ... I had some extra ram put in my computer and XP installed for awhile then I deleted the partitions and reinstalled Windows Me creating a fat32 (as directed) as I was more comfortable with Me than XP.

Could the new ram be causing me the problem? I don't know. I must of picked up something or else something is malfunctioning for some reason or other .

Also, what is slip.net? I was browsing one day and I got sent there.
Got to a blank page that said test ... I forget what happened after that but I rebooted and checked my computer thoroughly afterwards.
Maybe I have just reinfected my computer with something .. I really don't know. Today I tried a system restore but there appears to be no changes ,,,

Appreciate any help you could give.

    Sincerely,
    Garden Fairy

Hi and welcome to TSG..with so many changes made it hard to know where to start.
How much Ram do you have installed?
    What is the processor speed?
Id remove the new stick of Ram you installed in case it's faulty.
Does it remain stable while you run Anti virus and spyware programs?

Hi and thanks for your reply

I have been using a computer forever but never had to deal with viruses or anything serious so I am really retarded in this area but I am looking forward to learning.

I have 7.28 gb of ram with 6.78gb free
My system does remains stable when I run my anti virus programs

Before I reformatted is wasn't though (I suspect I did the right thing to reformatt as I had accidentally restored a quarantined file).

But the multiple windows opening in rapid succession has happened once since I reformatted a week ago.

I researched these forums and learned of javabomb scripts. And that sounded right to me. I have read that they don't harm my computer ...so I am thinking maybe it isn't anything wrong with my computer (but I am not certain as yet)

Yeah, my mom suspects that the extra ram might be faulty as you suggested. It is a thought I am considering.

Removing it might be best if the problem continues.

My connection speed is 46,666 bps

Thanks for again for looking at my problem

    Hi

I checked my system with Adaware and Spybot and deleted anything found there (tracking cookies and MRU's)
    Nothing serious found

Do I delete any of the files that Hijacker listed? I have not done so.

    Pam

Thanks for letting me know about the log. System is running fine.
I'll keep up with all the security checks ... as per usual.

I am going to try out the linus Xubuntu OS soon so I just left bare bones on my computer for now.

System running fine, security system didn't pick up anything serious. Could have been a java script bomb

Anyways, thankyou for your help. I didn't know if I'd ever need hijack this or even understand what it was or did. I do now know that it can be a helpful tool in finding browser hijackers.

I've got spybot installed back on too ... I'll try to make a note of any websites that cause my browser to loose control like that again.

And keep an eye to see how that extra memory chip is doing.

My daughter's friend put it on. He wanted me to run XP. That was nice of him but he made three partitions and I could not open up my browser sometimes ... it was a pain. So I took it off. My computer was a gift from my mom and my brother so I try my best to keep it going and to have fun.

    Sincerely,
    Thanks Again

I will have technical support available to me on the Xubuntu
It is a linux system (my spelling might be off)
I would not dream of burdening anyone with that task
I like to try to figure things out for myself as much as possible even if it takes me forevern (which is often the case)
Sometimes I will be plugging along with something so simple and then
I'll accidentally hit a keyboard key and ... poof! Problem solved.
Nothing on the computer has ever been easy for me ... snails pace for me it is :)
Accept maybe downloading Hijack This ... that was the simplest thing I've ever done *g

Xubuntu is a possible alternative for Windows Me users who are no longer supported by Microsoft ... so I am going to give it my best
And I am someone who wants to explore this particular alternative

Kind of like changing the way I live .... on the computer
