Hi. This morning i put on my desktop PC (windows XP). I updated my Java which may or may not be related. I dont normally get problems with my PC but today is different. My problems are now:-

1) all programs are running slow.
2) I wasnt able to use Google chrome but could use IE for a while. I installed firefox and that is what i am using now.
3) I try to go into windows firewall and i get "Due to an unidentified problem, windows cannot display windows firewall settings".
4)I try to open norton antvirus but all i get is "Unable to open this norton product. please restart your computer". I have restarted but to no avail.

I uninstalled the most recent java update but that hasnt helped.

Plase advise. Thanks.

Try a restore to before the problem
also do you have a fully paid subscription to Norton
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Restore PC to an Earlier Date & Time

Go Start>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore

  • Click in the radio button Choose a different restore point
  • Click Next
  • put a tick in Show more restore points
  • Pick a Date before this happened
  • Click Next
This should restore the PC to that time & date

you may need to use safemode to do the restore. As the PC starts keep tapping F8 - a menu will appear - choose safemode
