i am in the midst of a computer upgrade i have a large amount of music on my computer that i dont want to lose and was wondering if there was a program or anyway that i could compress the music files small enough to put them all onto a cd or a couple of cds to then transport them to the new computer.

    Hi REDMENACE99,

If you have only MP3 audio files, you would not be able to compress them because MP3 is already a compressed format.
WAV or CDA audio files are compressible format but don't expect to have a high compression rate like TXT or DOC files.

If they're MP3 files, ANY compression will reduce the quality.

Converting any lossy compressed file is a little like moving piles of sand, every time you move it, a little bit gets lost.

If you want to see this in action, try a similar experiment with JPG graphics files. With the program of your choice, convert a JPG file to/from a BMP about 50 times (batch mode is handy for this) and look at the original vs. the one that has gone through a bunch of conversions. It should get the point across. :)
