    i do not have sound in my Windows xp system. i download a realtek ac97 audio driver i ran the system in my multimedia controller and now i have an error message of device not configured correctly error code 1. i have tried everything to fix. what did i do wrong. also after downloading my multimedia controller still has the exclamation mark.

    You probably installed the wrong driver, hence the exclamation mark and why it can't be configured correctly.
    If your PC is a brand-name (ie not custom-made or home-built) you need to download drivers for on-board devices from the PC manufacturer's website because they often do not use standard drivers. They have them custom-made to support additional functions of the hardware.

    Plus, there are many different versions of "realtek ac97". You can't just install any of them. That's why you must go the PC maker's website. Only they have the correct version.
