My 486 will not boot up. Apparently I need a new battery. I don't even know how to get this thing apart let alone figure out what kind of battery I need. I unlocked it at the back, now does the top slide off or do I just pop it off. I don't want to break it.

    Hello Lynda,

If this is a desktop DELL then you need to slide the top cover toward the front. I have an old DELL 486 I still use for repair testing. What makes you think you need a new battery? It probably does need one I was just wondering. By the way, if the battery is the old style (looks like a radio battery) you might have a hard time finding a replacement. The battery in my old DELL is a 4.5V and I eventually had to make one out of three 1.5 AA batteries.
