In every burning software I have tried, it will not let me select the burn speed under 40x. I have no clue about this or what to do. Can anyone help me out? I am trying to get the speed to 4x preferably to burn a small image file.

Does it need to be on a disc? Can you compress it and put it on a floppy? Or email it?

Its a .nrg file, which is a nero image file that MUST be burned to a cd.

Well, you could try deleting the driver for your burner out of device manager, and see what happens when it gets reinstalled. You should be able to burn at 4x as your slowest speed. Has it always been like that?.......you can only burn at 40x?

Or try reinstalling Nero. What version of Nero is it?

Man this is lame, I just uninstalled the CDRW drivers to the Burner. Rebooted, PC said it found new hardware. Then I reinstalled System Drivers just to make sure. Then I tried again on Alcohol 120% and I was only able to select 40x

If all else fails, I have noticed that when I use Nero(same version as you have), that if I use a CD rewritable disk, instead of the standard cd-r, it makes me burn at 4, I have no choice in the matter. I know this doesn`t solve your problem, but it might just be a way to get your image on a disk, if it works on your machine the same as on mine. I know rewritable disks don`t have a very good rep, but I always keep one around just for the times I run into glitches with my burner. It beats wasting cd-rs.
