Hi, my cd-rom and burner decided not to work when i turn computer on. Computer is a:

    Celeron 850
    abit st6 motherboard
    sony cdu5211
    yamaha crw 2100e 16x10x40
    40gig seagate baracudda hdd
    no floppy drive
    512mb ram
    Windows ME
    SB live 5.1 DE
    netcomm 56k internal
Eagle 64mb Geforce2 gts ddr ti

Problem: I was about to installing the sims livin large expansion when it was about to patch the game to 1.1 or something. I canceled it and after restarting my pc the cdrom doesnt read and type of cd, same for burner. The light goes on for about 4sec and you can hear the cd spin and then it just stops. i have tried removing the cdrom from device manager and also deleted in safe mode, but after restart still no luck... I have reinstalled winme "over the top" through windows->options->install but still not working. I have tried removing the ide controller and reinstall with latest driver.

I am really stumped and any help would be very nice

    Thanks in advance
    :)

    Hi aiball, welcome to TSG.

Are the drives still showing up in the bios setup?
When the computer is starting up, hit the esc key, are the drives being recognized there?
Are they on the same IDE cable?

Yeah when i turn computer on it detects it and in the bios as well. the two cd drives are on the same cable and hard drive on seperate channel. But i have tried to put burner as slave with hard drive but doesnt work. Right now the sony is master on ide2 and burner as slave

    thanks for your advice

Any errors listed in device manager???

Try reversing the roles of the drives, make the master slave and the slave master.

If that doesn't work see this article from microsoft although I am really fishing here. Basically search the registry for the noide key

    Hi,
no there is no errors in device manager. ok i try reversing the roles but it was always working like this before. In the registy there is no noide key at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\IOS

    all i see is:
binary value thats name is start with data 00
a string called StaticVxD with data "*IOS"

also i have nero 5.5.6.4 and the cd drives are detected and also i have nero image drive installed. does this affect anything?

    thankyou

When you say the cd just stops, do you mean that it isn't auto running?

Can you access it from 'my computer' and see what's on it?
